Categories

Creating categories is a good way to compartmentalize your items. You can create a category for power tools and associate all power tool items with this category. Take it one step further and associate all types of tool categories with a parent category called Tools. In this way, you build a hierarchical structure that is clean and easy to understand.

Categories with parents

Create a category parent

Create a parent category under which you can associate related categories.

  1. Click Configuration on the left pane and then click the Code Tables tab.
  2. Type "inv" in the search bar and select Inventory Categories.
  3. Enter the name of the category.
  4. Leave Hidden set to 'No'.
  5. Enter one or more category managers. If you use Inventory Notifications, this person will receive alerts for this category. Click the lookup value to see a list of users. The names on this list come from the User Roster.
  6. Click Save.

Create a category under the parent

Create a category and associate it with the parent category.

  1. Click Configuration on the left pane and then click the Code Tables tab.
  2. Type "inv" in the search bar and select Inventory Categories.
  3. Enter the name for the category that will be part of this category group.

Categories without a parent

There could be times that it would not make sense to associate a category with any other category. In this case, create a category with no associated parent category.

  2. Type "inv" in the search bar and select Inventory Categories.
  3. Enter the name for the category that will be part of this category group.
  4. Leave the Category Parent name blank.
  5. Click the Category Manager field and select one or more names from the list.
  6. Leave the Hidden option set to 'No'.
  7. Click Save.
