Categories
Creating categories is a good way to compartmentalize your items. You can create a category for power tools and associate all power tool items with this category. Take it one step further and associate all types of tool categories with a parent category called Tools. In this way, you build a hierarchical structure that is clean and easy to understand.
Categories with parents
Create a category parent
Create a parent category under which you can associate related categories.
- Click Configuration on the left pane and then click the Code Tables tab.
- Type "inv" in the search bar and select Inventory Categories.
- Enter the name of the category.
- Leave Hidden set to 'No'.
- Enter one or more category managers. If you use Inventory Notifications, this person will receive alerts for this category. Click the lookup value
to see a list of users. The names on this list come from the User Roster.

Click Save.
Create a category under the parent
Create a category and associate it with the parent category.
- Click Configuration on the left pane and then click the Code Tables tab.
- Type "inv" in the search bar and select Inventory Categories.
- Enter the name for the category that will be part of this category group.
- Enter the Category Parent name.
- Click the Category Manager field and select one or more names from the list.
- Leave the Hidden option set to 'No'.
- Click Save.
Categories without a parent
There could be times that it would not make sense to associate a category with any other category. In this case, create a category with no associated parent category.

Click Configuration on the left pane and then click the Code Tables tab.
- Type "inv" in the search bar and select Inventory Categories.
- Enter the name for the category that will be part of this category group.
- Leave the Category Parent name blank.
- Click the Category Manager field and select one or more names from the list.
- Leave the Hidden option set to 'No'.
- Click Save.
