March 23, 2023

Important! Windows on ARM is not currently supported. For example, Microsoft Surface Pro X devices. For more information about Windows on ARM, see Microsoft's Windows Arm-based PCs FAQ.

Auto update for Windows

You can use the auto update feature to remotely upgrade your ZOLL emsCharts for Windows 4.x devices to v4.3.

To configure auto updates, go to the Mobile V3 Auto Update Restriction code table under ConfigurationServiceCode Tables and add a new entry for Version 4.3 (64 and/or 32 bits) and set Allow Automatic Update to 'Yes'. Your 4.x devices will receive a prompt to update.

Important! If your devices are on 3.x, you must uninstall 3.x first and then follow the ZOLL emsCharts for Windows installation steps to upgrade them to 4.3 manually. If your devices are on 4.0 - 4.1, you must click here and follow these additional steps before setting up the auto update.

New features/enhancements

New authentication service - Okta

ZOLL emsCharts is moving to a Single Sign On solution for our users. This will allow you to have a single user name and password to access multiple ZOLL products including ZOLL emsCharts and ZOLL Online applications like Case Review Premium, ZOLL Billing, and Insights. The new authentication system will also provide additional enhancements in the future.

This release of ZOLL emsCharts for Windows allows us to start migrating customers to the new solution. This migration will extend over the next several months as we get all of our customers moved over. Your users will continue to use their existing login credentials and should not be significantly impacted by the migration. Once migrated, there will be some differences like using your PIN to log into Windows while you're offline instead of using your password. We'll highlight these changes for you as we continue to roll out the functionality and when we migrate your Service over.

Okta authentication - Electronic Signatures

You can now provide a passkey based on your current validation method when adding a new Electronic Signature.

  • When your account is Okta enabled, you must provide your current passkey.

  • When your account is legacy (Okta is disabled), you must provide your current password.

The 'Password' field on the Electronic Signatures page has been changed to 'Passkey'.

Okta authentication - online/offline banner

If Okta is enabled for your Service, when you login to ZOLL emsCharts for Windows you will see a banner that indicates whether you are online or offline. You can collect all data in an offline state, but certain product features like Patient Search and Chart Upload require an active internet connection. When an offline device regains connectivity, you will be prompted to re-authenticate to access online functionality.

Okta authentication - offline use

If Okta is enabled for your Service, when you login to ZOLL emsCharts for Windows while the device is offline, you will use your passkey instead of your normal password. When the device resumes connectivity, you will be prompted to enter your password to access any online functionality like Patient Search and Chart Upload.

Data Validations - multiple rules with the same criteria

When multiple rules have the same criteria, they will all work as intended. Previously, when two or more rules had the same criteria, only the first rule would trigger its actions.

Data Validations - Dispatch > Crew page

Data Validations now work on the DispatchCrew page.

Data Validations - Time fields

Data Validations now work on all Time fields.

Data Validations - Summary and Close Chart screens

All of the Data Validation text is now visible on the Data Validation Summary and Close Chart screens, even when the Rules and Actions have a lot of text. Previously, when the Rules and Actions had a lot of text, it would not all be visible on the Data Validation Summary and Close Chart screens.

Fixed issues

CAD updates

We fixed an issue that was preventing CAD updates from being processed in ZOLL emsCharts for Windows. The device searches for CAD updates once per minute. If an update is found, the CAD Update button will be highlighted and you can click it to import all the new data from CAD into the PCR.

Signatures

We fixed an issue that could cause signatures captured in ZOLL emsCharts for Windows to appear enlarged and pixelated when displayed on ZOLL emsCharts Web.

Data Validations - Initial GCS

When set to 'Yes', the chart Page 3 'Initial Glasgow Coma Score' section now properly displays any Data Validation highlights.

ConfigurationCommand FacilityChartPage 3Initial GCS.

Data Validations - date/time value calculations

When a Command Facility or Service has a Data Validation Rule that references a date/time being less than a value, that rule will now be evaluated correctly in ZOLL emsCharts for Windows. For example, a rule that states 'Date Enroute' is less than minus two minutes from 'Date Dispatched' (Date Enroute < -2 minutes from Date Dispatched).

Data Validations - "Is Not One Of"

Rules created using the Operator "Is Not One Of" now report true when one or more of the items selected are in the list. This change only affects ZOLL emsCharts for Windows Rule functionality.

System configuration changes

None.

Known issues

We are aware of the following issues and are working to resolve them in an upcoming release:

  • NEMSIS 3.5: ZOLL emsCharts for Windows is not yet updated for NEMSIS 3.5 and cannot generate NEMSIS 3.5 data. You must upload your charts and complete them in ZOLL emsCharts Web to generate and validate NEMSIS 3.5 data.

  • ZOLL Cloud EKG Import unexpected error: If the EKG Report Image Type for your service is set to anything other than 'Default (Leave as JPG, Bitmap)', users will receive an "Unexpected error" when trying to import into ZOLL emsCharts for Windows. Administrators can update this setting in the Web EKG Configuration code table.

  • Multiple brands of EKG devices: If you use both ZOLL EKG devices and other manufacturers' devices, you will need two instances of ZOLL emsCharts for Windows installed.

  • Windows on ARM is not currently supported. For example, Microsoft Surface Pro X devices. For more information about Windows on ARM, see Microsoft's Windows Arm-based PCs FAQ.
