ICD-10 Codes

How ICD-10 diagnosis codes work

ICD-10 diagnosis codes are stored at the payer’s level on a claim. During claim creation, ICD-10 diagnosis codes are added when a primary payer is created. When you move from a primary payer to the secondary/tertiary payer, the ICD-10 diagnosis codes from the primary payer are copied to the secondary/tertiary payer. However, you can change the copied ICD-10 diagnosis codes to anything you want. Changes to ICD-10 diagnosis codes will persist for that payer only. After you change ICD-10 diagnosis codes for a specific payer, it is always a good practice to check them for the current payer before you submit the claim.

Expiring ICD-10 Codes
